Fragment of copper alloy champlevé enamelled Roman continental plate brooch. Central circular turret containing red enamel surrounded by the broken flat arms of a cruciform cross with oval-shaped openwork. Each of the four arms has a raised border retaining traces of a light blue enamel. One of the arms is unbroken and extends to the original outside perimeter of the brooch; assuming symmetry, this indicates the original unbroken brooch was approximately 36mm in diameter. A lead, cast, Musket ball (shot) of post-Medieval dating, from AD 1600 - 1800, most likely from AD 1644. The ball has been stamped randomly all over using a punch giving an “Z” shaped mark. The ball has been fired through a smooth bore musket as there are no riffling marks, just compression banding. One side of the ball has a slighter curve which is the powder side, the other side is much more curved. The “Z” marks have been slightly deformed in places due to it having been fired. An incomplete late Medieval copper-alloy folding strap clasp fastener dating to c.1350 – 1450. Description: The buckle is sub-rectangular (13.5mm x 10.2mm) with outwardly curved sides and recessed and offset strap bars on both ends. The remains of the strap closure plate is present on one end. It is formed from a single sheet of 0.7mm copper-alloy sheet and is simply wrapped around the bar and terminates in an old break. The fastener is quite corroded with a patchy light green patina.
