A fragment of a late Bronze Age vessel of the Post-Deverel-Rimbury 'Plainware' group dating c. 1000 BC – 800 BC. The vessel fragment has a body sherd thickness which ranges from 10.35mm to 7.83mm.The fabric is reduced dark-grey and tempered with moderate (15%) poorly sorted ≤ 5mm inclusions (possibly quartz or flint), preponderantly light-grey in colour, but some black also.

A complete lead-alloy spindle whorl of medieval to post-medieval date, c.AD 1100 - 1800. The spindle whorl is bi-conical with a central perforation running through it. Both surfaces bear worn traces of raised decoration with a series of unclear elements arranged around the central aperture. The metal has a mid-grey/white patina and is worn. The spindle whorl is damaged on one side, and is 30mm in diameter, 10mm thick and weighs 39.71g. The perforation has a diameter of 10mm suggesting a medieval date or later.

Copper alloy unidentified object, of unknown date. A flat solid 2.1mm thick round disc with an external diameter of 28.4mm. It has a slightly off-centre 3.5mm perforation which has been punched through from the upper side and has a 9 pointed star shaped edge, possibly to provide a secure seating for a splined insert. The perforation is surrounded with a ring of 15 punched depressions, 13 of which do not penetrate the object. They vary in size from 1 - 2mm and the shapes vary from triangular to square, via trapezoids and rectangles.
The object is a light to mid green colour.

Description: Medieval gold seal matrix, oval with a centrally set oval stone intaglio and on the reverse a partly squashed sheet gold loop, probably attached with solder. The stone, probably carnelian but with slight banding, is engraved with an elephant in profile walking right (on the impression), with a castle or howdah on its back; it is the right way up when the matrix is held with the loop to the left and the start of the inscription below.

Copper alloy probable belt or strap mount. A flat solid 2.3mm thick sexfoil mount with a large (10mm) round central perforation and an external diameter of 36.3mm. It has 3 small square punched perforations symmetrically located in 3 of the rounded petals. Appears to be cast, with bevelled outer edges to the upper face. Both faces are undecorated.
Probably medieval in date - see NMS-577F2A NMS-383756 SUR-7D2D97 for similar items, dated to the 14-15th century.

Post-medieval sheet copper alloy hinge plate, probably from some small container. At one end a pair of rolled over pivot loops retain remains of an iron spindle. Incomplete post-medieval copper alloy jew's harp. One jaw is broken, and the other is entirely lost. The rabbet on the oval loop is filled with rust from the missing iron tongue. There is a transverse rib on the outer faces of the surviving junction of loop and jaw, both of which are of lozengiform cross-section. Extant width 20mm. Extant length 31.5mm. Thickness 4.6mm. 16th - 18th century.

An incomplete copper-alloy Medieval buckle with integral plate, dating to AD 1300-1450. A few fragments of the frame survive, which was likely to be oval in plan. and in cross-section. The integral plate is roughly oval with a three-lobe end. The plate has three circular perforations, which are arranged along its longitudinal axis; the hole close to the frame is blocked by a fragment of the iron pin, while the other two are blocked by fragments of the copper-alloy rivets, which would have secured the plate to the strap. The surfaces are heavily worn.

Complete Roman cast copper alloy male figurine with exaggerated phallus. The figurine is modelled in the round with a large head and small body, reminiscent of the proportions of a child. The pose is straight, with upper arms attached to the side of the body and forearms raised forwards at right angles. The hair curls back away from the face, forming a ridge running around the back of the head.

A small and incomplete copper alloy double looped buckle. The frame has two oval loops with bevelled inner edges. The rear is flat and the front convex. The integral centre bar which would have held the pin, is slightly off-set and narrowed from the frame. The buckle is slightly bent and has a green and brown patina.
Date: Post Medieval - c. 1500-1650
Dimensions: Length 20.31 mm Width 16.5 maximum and 14.86mm at centre. The buckle is 2.01mm thick and weighs 2.1gms.
A similar buckle is recorded in Whitehead R 1996 Buckles 1250-1800, p.54, No.307.
