A post-medieval lead-alloy frame, used to repair the stem of a glass drinking vessel, probably dating 17th - 18th century. The frame is comprised of 2 circular rings and four vertical, lead-alloy strips connecting the two rings. It would have been moulded to the contours of the vessel, with the rings wrapped around the stem, one above and one below the breakage. There are small fragments of colourless glass remaining in the smaller ring of the frame.
Repairs using lead frames were common in this period as glass was so expensive and prone to breakage (Willmott, 2001, 96-97). Simi…

A complete Medieval cast copper-alloy and enamelled mount or plaque. The object is shield-shaped with a straight top and sides and the base curving towards in a shallow point. On the face is a lion rampant facing left with the field showing significant remains of blue enamel. The gaping mouth shows traces of red enamel. The bottom right corner of the shield has been struck and is bent inwards towards the back. The reverse is flat and undecorated with no evidence of attachment. A similar mount on a more pointed shield can be seen at IOW-0698F7 on this database. Circa 1300-1450.

An incomplete copper-alloy Roman wire bracelet of expanding type of 3rd to 4th century date, with part of both terminals missing due to old breaks. The wire has a circular cross-section which measures 2.5mm in diameter. The bracelet is roughly oval in shape, measuring c52mm in external length and 45mm in external width. The remains of a twisted expanding clasp can be seen on both sides of the bracelet, consisting of additional pieces of wire, both of circular cross-section, one wrapped around the bracelet nine times and the other four times.

An incomplete copper alloy candle snuffer of post medieval date. The object is hollow and conical in form. The top of the object has the now broken remains of where the handle would have joined onto the cone shaped snuffer. There is extensive corrosion and the object is now a pale green colour with light brown patches.

A complete medieval copper-alloy harness pendant dating from circa AD 1200 - 1400 in the shape of a cross pommee with an integral suspension loop at the top of one arm. There is an inscribed diagonal cross line bisecting the centre of the object. There are faint traces of gilding remaining on the front and rear surfaces. The reverse is undecorated. The object has an even dark brown colour. The object is very similar to an example in 'The Medieval horse and its equipment' (Clark 1995, 67, fig.50).

A lead pendant, probably dating to the Medieval period. The pendant is cruciform in plan and rectangular in section. The arms are of expanded trapezoidal shape bearing a resemblance to a Byzantine cross. At the centre of the cross and repeated at the end of each arm there is a single circular moulding each containing a triangle with a single pellet within. The apex of the cross has a circular perforation for suspension. The reverse of the pendant is plain.
