An incomplete Post-Medieval silver seal matrix. The face of the matrix is oval in shape measuring 17.4mm x 15.6mm. The face is flat with indented detail so that any impression made with the artefact would be formed in relief. A beaded border of closely set pellets creates a concentric oval c.0.6mm in from the edge of the face. Within this border the lower third is decorated with horizontal (on the width axis) undulating lines. These lines are intended to represent water. A fragment of Niedermendig lava. This fragment of rock weighs 498.23g and has been shaped to be used as a quern stone, probably a rotary quern, only a small portion of which survives. According to information given by Watts, S., 2006, this quern is more likely to date from the Medieval to Post-Medieval period, c.AD 1100 - c.AD 1700. However, this fragmentary piece of lava does not contain enough diagnostic features to further identify the form of quern and therefore narrow the suggested date range. Unusual medieval gilt copper alloy composite harness pendant comprising an elaborate sexfoil frame within which a separate sexfoil is suspended. The divisions between the petals of the former are emphasised by projecting fillets.
