The upper half and suspension loop of a medieval bell. The lower edge of the bell fragment has eight semi-circular protruding blunt raised projections, presumably the remains of an openwork lower half suggesting the bell was sounded by a clapper rather than a pea.. Unlike a similar object recovered nearby (LEIC-83E1A1) the upper face has no apparent applied design, although this may be obscured by corrosion. The inner face of the lower surface has remains of iron corrosion possibly from the original iron clapper. The object is in fair condition, is 30mm in diameter, 30mm thick and wei…

An incomplete Post-Medieval glass linen smoother dating from c.AD 1500-1850.
Description: The smoother survives as roughly half of the circular body of the smoother, with a domed smoothing surface and a concave reverse with central dimple where the handle would have been attached. Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy champlevé enamelled mount - most probably from a casket or reliquary chest of high medieval date (c. AD. 1150-1250). The style of the mount is not as elegant as that known from Limoges and it is possible this may be an English or another continental piece in the same style. The plate is flat and rectangular; in profile it is bowed slightly, possibly by movement in the ploughsoil but probably by being levered from the wooden casket. The two ends of the mount are both broken and the breaks are patinated suggesting the damage is in antiquity / old. Four rivet holes a…
