An incomplete Neolithic flint flaked axehead (c. 4000 BC-c. 2351 BC). A transverse break has occurred about half way along its original length. This implement is now sub-square in plan and is pointed-oval ('lenticular') in cross-section. In plan, the sides flare slightly from the break to the curved cutting edge. The arrises are not very sharp. The axehead is mottled grey and pale orange with iron staining. The break is old. Length: 65.0mm; width: 51.5mm; thickness: 26.8mm. Weight: 106.22g. The sacred monogram IHS in inlaid niello is just visible on one face of the boss while the other is illegible. Part of the shank of the central swivelling loop remains in a vertical hole. A complete copper-alloy halfpenny trade token of Post-Medieval date, AD 1688. The token was issued by Timothy Browne, cordwainer (shoe maker) in Beverley. Obverse: TIMOTHEY BROWNE around head of a goat left (part of the cordwainer arms). Reverse: OF BEVERLEY around HIS//HALF//PENY. The token is 18.2mm in diameter and weighs 1.1g. It is difficult to date such an undiagnostic object with certainty, however a medieval date seems likely.
