An incomplete Neolithic flint flaked axehead (c. 4000 BC-c. 2351 BC). A transverse break has occurred about half way along its original length. This implement is now sub-square in plan and is pointed-oval ('lenticular') in cross-section. In plan, the sides flare slightly from the break to the curved cutting edge. The arrises are not very sharp. The axehead is mottled grey and pale orange with iron staining. The break is old. Length: 65.0mm; width: 51.5mm; thickness: 26.8mm. Weight: 106.22g. Shield-shaped boss or central block with stumps of the oval-sectioned arms of a medieval copper alloy purse bar in very degraded condition. The sacred monogram IHS in inlaid niello is just visible on one face of the boss while the other is illegible. Part of the shank of the central swivelling loop remains in a vertical hole. Ward Perkins 1940, Type A2. Height, width and thickness of boss 21, 19 and 10mm. Second half 15th century.

A complete copper-alloy halfpenny trade token of Post-Medieval date, AD 1688. The token was issued by Timothy Browne, cordwainer (shoe maker) in Beverley. Obverse: TIMOTHEY BROWNE around head of a goat left (part of the cordwainer arms). Reverse: OF BEVERLEY around HIS//HALF//PENY. The token is 18.2mm in diameter and weighs 1.1g. A similar example is illustrated in Thompson and Dickinson, pl.17, no.5800. An incomplete copper alloy medieval folding balance, dating from c.AD 1350-1400. The object is has a central section with a slot either side to hold the arms of the balance. In the centre of this section is a worn break, this is probably where central pointer would have attached. These are held in place by a circular copper alloy rivet, around one is worn and broken. An incomplete early Roman cast copper-alloy sprung Dolphin brooch without pin, dating to the 1st century AD. The head has a small curved loop on the end for the sprung pin, and the head is hollow on the inside with short semi-cylindrical wings. The bow is straight and decorated with a small ridge running halfway to the foot. The brooch is without a catchplate and the foot is missing. It has a brownish-red and green patina. A Medieval copper alloy strap fitting, probably dating to c. AD 1100-1500. The fitting consists of a concavo-convex circular plate with rearward facing sharp hook projecting from one point. The vestigial remains of an integral rivet project from the reverse. Dimensions: length 31.5mm; width 20.1mm; thickness 0.9mm; weight 4.01g. It is difficult to date such an undiagnostic object with certainty, however a medieval date seems likely.
