Object type: GAMING PIECE
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Wakefield
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast lead circular domed object with a flattened top and a flat base, possibly an Early Medieval gaming piece dating from AD 800 - 1000. It has no decoration and a grey patina. It is similar to SWYOR-8B5D84. It is 21.8mm in diameter, 7.2mm thick and weighs 15.3g
It is also possible that it is a weight. If so then the mass would suggest half an ounce in the Troy or Apothecaries' weight systems, an ounce being 31.1g, (The Medieval Household, G. Egan, page 302 ). This would date it to the 14th or 15th centuries.
