Copper alloy pin from a (probably) medieval buckle. The pin is oval in cross section with a partial loop at the attachment end and tapering to a blunted point at the other. It is bent halfway along its length, probably in antiquity as there is thinning at the apex of the bend and the mid green patina is continuous. The loop is shouldered where it joins the shaft, and is opened where it curves back onto the shaft. An incomplete post medieval cast copper alloy rectangular buckle dating to c.1600-1700. With just a portion of one loop remaining, the frame is rectangular in form with a deep D-shaped cross section being rounded on the top and flat on the bottom. A central moulded lobed protrusion forms a pin rest on the outer edge of the loop. The reverse is plain and flat. Would probably have once been a double looped buckle as illustrated in : Buckles 1250-1800, Page 79, No 486. Height 13.3mm, width 23.5mm, thickness 3.3mm and weight 3.6g.
