A complete and very well preserved copper-alloy seal matrix dating to the Medieval period, c. 1300-1400. This is a pedestal type, demonstrating a elongated facetted handle topped with a trefoil-shaped suspension loop, below which are two transverse collars with coincident grooves. The handle itself flares into the circular seal die, the latter decorated on its underside with the motif of John the Baptist's head laid on a platter, a knife or dagger to the right. An incomplete, copper alloy, pedestal type seal matrix of the Post Medieval period (AD1600-1800). The matrix has a circular loop at the apex with an extended collar below; it then tapers in and then out to the almost circular base. There are two incised circumferential grooves just above the base.The seal does not show any markings or wear, suggesting there was a separate seal, possibly of another material attached,which is now missing. The form of the seal matrix itself is indicative of a 17th century date. Height: 14.08mm Weight: 3.1g Diameter: 9.58mm
