A complete lead-alloy weight of uncertain date. The object is cylindrical with a circular plan and a rectangular cross-section. The circular faces are both concave. All surfaces appear undecorated. The metal is white/brown in colour and is worn. The weight is 22.2mm in diameter, 14.7mm thick and weighs 49.0g. County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy strap end of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 750-950. The strap end is of Thomas' Class A, probably Type 1, although the decoration has been highly abraded, obscuring many of the details. The strap end is sub-rectangular in shape with the longer edges tapering towards one another. It is made from a single sheet of metal folded widthways. The edges are joined for the majority of its length before splitting into a front and back plate at the attachment end. An incomplete copper alloy strap end of Early-Medieval date (c.AD 750-1100). The strap end seems to be a simplified derivative of Thomas' Class E, Type 3. It is tongue-shaped, and made from a single folded sheet of metal which is joined together at the edges for most of the base but splits at the attachment end into two plates. There are traces of a rib running lengthways down the centre of the front plate, although this is almost flat either through wear or manufacture, and is marked out by faintly incised lines on either side of it. The attachment end terminates in a worn irregular …
