Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy unidentified object. A cast strip of lentoid section, tightly curled up at one end and with a further two more open bends along the course of the rest of its extent. That terminal within the tightly curled loop is lightly rounded. A scar on the outer part of the curled end suggests the recent loss of a separate element brazed to that site. The other end appears to have been cut or broken; as yellow metal appears, both this and the more gentle curves may have arisen from recent and adventitious damage. However, the tighter coil would be unlikely to occur accidentally, and …

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy and ?glass possible mount. A small plano-convex disc with three oval white [i.e. colourless] glass stones of lengths 2.6-3.3mm embedded in a pale powdery material on its convex side. Each stone appears to surmount an individual boss, and one may have been lost from a more symmetrical arrangement than is now apparent. A pair of adjacent rounded nicks on the edge might relate to attachment - there are no other potential fixing points save for the flat back - or perhaps to the dismantling of a setting. The stones have a slight purple tint, so, rather than glass, these might…

Object type: BALANCE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy possible balance fragment. Cast rectangular section bar with an everted pointed end flanked by a pair of grooves or notches set on its upper and lower sides, here interpreted as receiving the cord holding a balance pan. Both the sides of the bar are lightly indented. Both the indentations and the notches at the end of the bar share a common diagonal alignment. As medieval balances typically retained their cords in loops, this may be later. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1900.

Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy possible strap fitting. Cast triangular frame with a round knop at one angle and with slightly larger D-shaped knops at the other two. There is no evidence for a pin seat or pin rest, so this was probably not a buckle frame. As a strap union, the form would permit three light straps to converge upon it. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1800.
Height: 19.7mm, Width: 21.9mm, Thickness (at knops): 2.8mm, Weight: 1.84gms

Copper alloy mount fragment. Cast concavo-convex plate in the form of three partially round and solid ended cylinders, two wider [8mm] flanking one narrow [2.8mm], with the stub of a central integrally cast fixing pin, now of length 3.3mm. Rob Webley kindly comments: 'I believe this particular form to be characteristically Roman. Please see WAW-1F99A4, for example...', correcting an initial suggestion of a post-medieval date by this reporter. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410.
