An incomplete cast copper-alloy single looped buckle dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. This example is of Meols type 6, demonstrating a broadly 'D' shaped plano-convex sectioned frame with rounded sides, knopped ends to the offset strap-bar and a thickened edge to the outer frame. The pin and plate are both missing in old damage. Preserved in rather poor condition with an uneven brownish patina, it measures 14.31mm in length, 16.93mm wide at its widest point and 1.86mm thick at the midpoint of the outer frame. It weighs 1.33g.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle and plate of Meols type 12, dating c. 1250-1400. The buckle frame is single looped, with curved sides, a thickened outer edge and an offset strap bar-around which the wound pin is still attached. Hinging from the strap bar itself via two projecting 'tabs' (that flank a central rectangular cut out which accomodates the pin) is a plain folded sheet metal plate, its rear portion broken away in old damage. Preserved in good condition with an even green patina, it measures a total of 24.04mm in length, the frame being 13.01mm wide and 3.23mm thick at …

An incomplete cast copper-alloy single looped buckle with integral plate dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. Only the plate survives, the frame missing in old damage. It is broadly triangular in plan, now bent at an angle of c. 45 degrees due to post-depositional damage. Directly behind the frame are two rivet holes, one for accomodating the original pin and the other presumably to aid in attaching the buckle to a strap. The sides of the plate taper inwards after this point, ending in a cusped terminal. Preserved in rather poor condition with an uneven brownish patina, it sur…

Incomplete copper-alloy double-loop buckle of post-medieval date (c. 1570 - 1700 AD). The buckle consists of a rectangular frame which would have been separated into two equally-sized rectangular loops by a pin bar; this has broken, leaving two small stumps with worn, broken edges. The buckle frame has a bevelled outer edge and curved corners. It has a smooth dark-brown patina. The object is 21.38mm in length, 19.16mm in width and 1.65mm in thickness. It weighs 1.71g.

Copper-alloy and gilt double-loop trapezoidal buckle of post-medieval date (c. 1620 - 1680 AD), missing its pin. The buckle consists of two equal-sized loops that widen slightly from the pin bar and terminate at each end in a flat, triangular lip. The pin bar has decorative knops at either end and is rectangular in section. The original surface of the buckle has largely been worn away but there are traces of gilding and an incised circular decorative pattern on the front face of one of the triangular lips. The object otherwise has a patchy brown and green patina. It is 40.67mm in leng…
