A gold mount decorated with filigree, granulation and cloisonné garnet inlay. The mount comprises a sub-circular piece of gold sheet edged with a strand of gold beaded wire. In the centre is a circular cell made from an upright gold strip surrounded with a collar of gold beaded wire. It is inlaid with a flat cut red gem, presumably a garnet, with a central gold annulet. A slightly worn and abraded Post-Medieval gold and niello/enamel 'memento mori' type mourning-ring, likely dating soon after 23rd of June 1668 and commemorating Mrs. Jane Brodnax. Description: The finger ring has is a simple loop with a D-shaped cross-section and a decorative engraved skull in 3/4 profile left. There is only a small surviving trace of the black enamel or niello that would have decorated the skull, mostly around the back of the skull.
