An incomplete decorated ceramic floor tile dating to the medieval period. The two-colour effect of the tile was achieved by etching a design into the clay base then filling these voids with a white clay. Coating the surface of the tile with lead glaze gives these tiles their distinctive yellow and brown colour scheme.The tile is decorated with an arc spanning its central width beneath which is a chevron with curved arms from which protrude seven 'fingers'. Beneath this the design would have comprised two further cheverons with curved arms, and can be paralled with a more complete tile…

Early Medieval to Medieval Stamford ware sherd, 49mm long, 46mm wide and 8mm thick with a weight of 23g.
The object is sub rectangular in form and cross section. It has a pale cream/brown patina and finely grained fabric with small grit inclusions. Its outer surface has trace sof pale greenish translucent glaze. It forms part of the base and side of a vessel. Its underside in concave and its sides shows linear ridges internally.
