A groat of Edward III minted probably betweel AD 1352 and 1353 at York. (Spink number 1571, North 1164). Cross patee mint mark
Obverse:- portrait of monarch facing outwards, enclosed within nine cusped border, each point marked with a fleur de lys. Legend around 'EDWARD D G REX ANGL (uncertain character) FRANCORVM'
Reverse:- A long cross with three pellets in each crutch, legend dissected into quarters. Legend (inner) - CIVITAS EBORACVM. Legend (outer) - 'POSVI DEUM ADIUTOREM MEVM'.
