Roman copper alloy zoomorphic brooch of Mackreth's (2011) Type PL OBJECT 4.a2 dating to the period c. AD 43 - 350. The body is narrow, broadly rectangular with the breast rounded and the tail end squared off. The neck projects vertically and curves forwards to form the bulbous head. The body is divided into four recessed cells separated by reserves. The cells retain traces of enamel, now a semi-translucent green, in places red or degraded to a pale grey. The central reserve running from the tail, along the back and up the neck is engraved with a series of cross-cuts to create a beaded…
