Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete lead weight of uncertain date. The object is cylindrical and stands upright, though slightly angled. The metal has a mid-yellow/white patina and is worn. The object is 9.3mm tall, 9.9mm in diameter and weighs 6.4g. Weights of a similar form have been identified from Early-Medieval contexts at Cottam, East Riding of Yorkshire. Due to the lack of secure context for the current example dating it and other examples of this general type is problematic, and their use is invariably uncertain. This function is also not certain and the object may have served another purpose.
