A complete copper-alloy mount of medieval to Post-Medieval date, c.1400 - 1600. The mount is sexfoil in plan around a central perforation. Two attachment spike project from the reverse, both terminating in worn points. The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The mount is 14.8mm x 12.8mm, 1.8mm thick (5.3mm including spikes) and weighs 1.8g. A similar example is illustrated in Griffiths, Philpott and Egan (2007) p.115, pl.19, no.1047 and is from a late medieval context. Ref: Griffiths, D., Philpott. R. and Egan, G. (2007). Incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester brooch of late Iron Age to early Roman date, c. AD 20 - 70. The item is composed of a cylindrical bow which tapers to a sharp point. There is no part of the catch plate remaining, and the tip of the bow bends slightly sideways. The head of the bow is comprised of the remains of the wings and a small portion of the lower part of the spring casing, which projects slightly past the rear-facing chord hook and is sharply pointed. A Post-medieval copper alloy strap fitting, probably dating to c. AD 1600-1700. The fitting consists of a sub-piriform plate with a concave reverse, tapering towards a transverse collar and rearward facing hook at one end, and with a D-shaped perforated lug, surmounted by a knop, at the other. The perforation retains evidence for an iron rivet in situ. An integral circular rivet projects from the reverse of the hooked end, with the vestigial remains of a split backplate.
