A near complete Roman copper alloy hinged Hod Hill brooch, missing only its pin, probably dating to c. AD 43-75. The head of the brooch consists of a sub-rectangular plate rolled over itself to form the wings with a central rectangular slot cut to accommodate a hinged pin; both the pin and axis bar are now lost. The bow of the brooch tapers towards the foot, and is decorated with a longitudinal corded ridge on either edge, flanking a central channel. The foot is offset from the rest of the bow, and is plain. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman brooch of the Colchester Derivative Double lug Type, dating to AD 43-100. It consists of the head and a short part of the upper bow of the brooch. The head has two semi-circular cross-sectioned wings which house the spring mechanism still in place; unfortunately, the pin is missing. A complete copper alloy Terret Ring of Roman date (AD 43-200). The object is a strap-mounted terret, Lewis' type 19 'dropped-bar' form. At the top of the object is a bend circular integral hoop, which is sub-ovate in section. The hoop would have acted as a rein guide. A Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type. The stem swells from an egg shaped knop at the distal end to a classic dolphin-back, marked at its zenith with a small convex oval stud. Four converging tracks of sunken beading, two of which circle the inside of the bar, proceed from the zenith down to curl around and under. the right side of the bars now broken. iron oxide staining inside the hinge point may indicate the remains of the bar are still present within the hinge. width across head excluding bar:- 12mm thinnest width of stem:- 4 mm
