A complete lead or lead alloy Shot of Post-Medieval date (AD 1640-1750). The object is spherical with a shallow circumferential casting seam and a small casting spru. The ball displays possible minor signs of impact damage. The metal is cream in colour with a pitted and corroded patina The weight of the ball suggests that it was meant to be fired from a pistol Diameter: 13.74mm, Weight: 10.7g. A small lead musket ball dating from the post-medieval period, about AD 1600 - 1900. The casting sprue remains and also part of the casting seam. There is an eruption on one side of the ball, suggesting that a small bubble may have formed during casting. The ball has a light grey patina. It is 13mm in diameter (including casting sprue) and weighs 8.6g, suggesting that it was intended for use in a pistol. One spherical lead alloy shot / ball of probable post medieval or early modern date (1600-1800 AD). Due to the size and weight of the ball it is most likely to be from a pistol. The shot is sub spherical in shape with an uneven surface. It has clear casting seams and trimmed casting sprues from the mould. There is no evidence of the shot having been fired. It is a mid-grey colour with abraded powdery patinated surface. A single lead alloy ball from a cast bar shot dating from the 17th-18th century. This would have consisted of a pair of conjoined lead musket balls joined with a circular small integral bar to form a dumb-bell shape. The bar appears to be made of iron, cast into the ball.
