Bag 8 Photo C - Musket Ball
One possible lead alloy musket shot / ball of post medieval 1600-1800 date. The ball has lost its spherical shape and possesses a relatively even surface on one half of the shot. The other has a large curving surface created by an impact from collision, as a consequence the ball resembles a crescent shape. The shot has a casting seam and spurs from the mould removed. A complete or almost complete late Early-Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) c.11th century copper-alloy zoomorphic stirrup terminal. The stirrup terminal is worn but shows moulded zoomorphic features in the form of a stylised animal or beast, possibly a wolf, with a hollow, semi-cylindrical tube which would have joined to the stirrup.
Length 20.4mm, width 12.3mm, height 10.6mm, weight 6.8g.

A complete copper alloy apothecary's weight of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1700 - 1800. The weight is square in plan and rectangular in section and is engraved on both sides with the traditional symbol for the apothecary's unit of measure 2 drachms. The symbol can be described in its basic form as 3y. An umlaut is present over the y.
The metal has a dark reddish-brown patina and is worn. The weight is 16.2mm long, 15.6mm wide, 3.9mm thick and weighs 6.8g.

A fragment of a copper-alloy Roman finger ring, dating to 300-400. Only the recessed setting for the bezel and fragments of the shoulders survive. The setting is circular in plan while the shoulders are formed by two waisted elements, which end with a transverse raised ridge. Tha back face is plain.

A ceramic vessel of probable Post Medieval date, about AD 1500 - 1800. Only half of the base of the vessel survives. The fabric is very hard and vitrified, probably a stoneware, with a fine texture and frequent small black inclusions in the buff coloured matrix. The diameter of the base would have been about 90mm. An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of medieval date, c.AD 1450 -1550. The buckle is a single looped D-shape with a narrowed and recessed strap bar. Lobed knops are present to either end of the bar and the outer loop of the frame is decorated with a series of transverse grooves resulting in a rope-work appearance. The pin no longer remains.
The metal has a dark green patina and is worn. The buckle is 42.9mm long, 31.3mm wide, 2.9mm thick and weighs 6.3g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Whitehead p.25 and are dated to circa AD 1450 - 1550.

The object has a complete loop attached to a bar with a sub rounded profile, which is attached to a thickened collar at the base of a second, possibly larger loop on the opposite end, which has broken off. A copper alloy probably Post Medieval to Modern furniture fitting; part of a bowed drop handle from a drawer. Only one end survives. It has a short cylindrical pin which would have been held in a handle attachment lug, and then a wider swan-necked curved handle, broken at the base of the side of the handle. The handle is rectilinear in cross-section near the articulating pin, and circular in section at the break. The object is 28.9mm long, 17.8mm wide and weighs 3.94g. It has a dark green patina.
