A fragment of the front plate of a post-medieval copper alloy book clasp, probably dating to c. 1500-1650. The fragment is rectangular in plan, with one end (the strap attachment end) which is flared and has four triangular indentations. One of the tips of this flared edge is missing due to an old break. A copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped rectangular buckle frame dating to c. 1570-1700. The frame is plain with a notch for the pin at one end, though the pin itself is missing. It has slightly rounded corners. The object has a green patina. The buckle measures 28.50 mm in length, 24.26 mm in width and weighs 6.49 g. A similar example can be found illustrated in Whitehead (2003, 75) no. 459 and given the above date range, though without supporting evidence.

The frame is oval to D-shaped, with an integral circular sectioned rivet projecting outwards 2.2mm from the centre of the base, now bent slightly to one side. On its outer edge there are two shallow, angled knops flanking three transverse grooves; the example can be classified as being of Meols type 8. The bar is narrowed, recessed and offset. The pin is missing; the central groove on the outer edge would have acted as a pin rest. The buckle measures 14.02 mm in length, 15.20 mm in width and weighs 0.87 g. A similar example can be found in Whitehead (2003, 22) no. 92.
