A complete copper alloy strap end dating from the medieval period dating to c.14th Century AD. The strap end is of split end type, with a copper alloy rivet holding the two plates in place. The strap end is rectangular in shape, and narrows slightly towards the terminal end. The terminal end is a solid rectangular knop with incised diagonal notches. There is a narrow neck connecting this to the main body of the strap end. An incomplete whetstone of probable early-medieval date (c. AD 800 - 1100). Description: The whetstone is formed from a very fine-grained, sedimentary, mica-rich stone. It is sub-trapezoidal in plan with tapering sides and is trapezoidal in cross section although there is significant post-depositional damage that has changed its profile. The underside of the wings is recessed to accomodate a coiled spring which is secured by an axial pin the ends of the which are located in holes through circular plates at the ends of the wings.
