Description: Incomplete post-medieval silver spoon handle of seal top type. From the top down it exhibits a plain disc top, short fluted baluster, constriction, tapering fluted baluster, two plain narrow mouldings and a short length of hexagonal-sectioned stem terminating in an old break. Discussion: A number of similar examples have been reported as Treasure and have been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, including NMS-6D0C5B (2016 T424). Similar inscribed examples with dates tend to cluster in the early 17th century, but undecorated examples such as this one…

Object type: BODKIN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Description: Incomplete silver post-medieval bodkin. It is bent in three places along its length and is broken at either end, both breaks old. One end retains the stubs from an eye and the object tapers to the other end. It is rectangular in cross-section, and both main faces are decorated with a series of engraved panels. The decorative scheme is the same on both faces; below the eye is a reserved saltire or diagonal cross on a background of vertical and horizontal engraved lines, and then there is a longer panel with a reserved S-shaped line between angular lobed leaves. Below this …

Object type: PIN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk

Description: Incomplete post-medieval gilded silver pin. It has a globular head, now squashed to a flattish shape and therefore originally hollow. There is a pellet at the apex, and the head is divided into two hemispheres by two circumferential rows of filigree (twisted) wire around the widest point. Each hemisphere is decorated with a series of oval loops of filigree (from the photograph, they appear to be drop-shaped with the ends of the wires not perhaps meeting). The cylindrical shaft projects from the bottom, terminating in a jagged break. Discussion: This pinhead is clear…

County: North Yorkshire

An incomplete, distorted, pierced and worn coin of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1489 - 1660. The coin is extremely worn rendering most diagnostic detail illegible. Traces of a border with text can be determined suggestive of a Post-Medieval date. The coin is 18.6mm in diameter and weighs 1g which is approximately consistent with the dimensions for the threepence issued under Elizabeth I. Some pierced/modified coins can come within the remits of Treasure Act 1996, including all finds of pierced silver or gold coins up to AD 1180 and some thereafter depending upon the nature of the pi…
