Description
Treasure reference 2018 T741: a Roman silver finger ring, probably of Henig Type VIII which dates to the second or third century AD. The ring has a flat sub-rectangular bezel with sloping triangular shoulders. The shoulders taper to form a slender hoop. The bezel is very worn and no inscription or decoration is visible. The shoulders are each decorated with two pairs of incised lines which run parallel to the edges. These taper to the base of the hoop, where two lines continue along the perimeters. Roman copper-alloy vulvate mount, dating from c. AD 150-300. The mount is formed of a sub rectangular plate with a raised oval shaped boss in the centre. There is a linear groove running lengthwise down the oval, giving the appearance of a stylised vulva.
The underside of the mount is concave where the boss is raised on the front. There are two integral lugs at either edge of the concave portion. They are cylindrical in section and end with a hammered or flattened tip.
The patina is in variable condition, surviving well is some places and in others having worn away. The corners…

A probable Roman copper alloy furniture fitting, dating to c. AD 43-410. The fitting consists of a plano-convex knop, with a narrowed, waisted projection expanding from the base. There are traces of iron corrosion affixed to the base of the projection. The knop is undecorated except for a slightly obliquely angled incised circumferencial collar around the the base.
The finial is 20.7mm in length/height, 17.94mm in width (diameter of dome) and weighs 21.16g.

A large cast copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch, incomplete and now in two refitting pieces. The brooch has wide arms with a C-shaped section, end caps and a double lug on the head / within the spring casing. The spring and pin are missing. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman T-shaped brooch with developed hinge, dating to the period AD 50-150. The brooch has tubular wings which encases the pin axis bar, with the head of the hinged pin remaining. The bow is rectangular in plan and tapers towards the foot of the brooch which is now missing. The bow is decorated with a raised, seraated central vertical rib to about a third down the bow's length. On the reverse this section is recessed.
