Broken copper-alloy double-oval loop buckle. The frame is decorated on the front face with a leaf-like moulded pattern over which there are substantial remains of gilding. The cross section is sub-rectangular. The strap bar is slightly narrowed with end stubs projecting just beyond the sides of the frame. The pin survives intact. The buckle was found complete but badly bent and cracked, it has since fractured and is now in two segments. A similar but complete buckle is shown in Whitehead, R. Buckles 1250-1850 No.421. Circa AD1550-1650
Length; 42mm (estimated), width; 26mm. Weight: 9.76g.
