An incomplete cast engraved and incomplete Medieval lead personal circular seal matrix. Description: The matrix is circular and quite thick, with the back being convex leaving it D-shaped in cross-section. On the front there is a central engraved design of a stem or branch within a pair of triangular motifs, with a base line joining them. There is a plain line border around the design dividing it from the inscription, which probably starts with a cross although this area of the inscription is damaged. An incomplete medieval lead round seal matrix circa 13th / 14th century. Approximately half of the seal remains. The central field has a cross with spiked arms (two spikes on each side on each arm) and possibly plants in the angles. The inscription appears to read '+_ :DE SVNDWE[C(O)]'.The reverse is plain and flat. Discussion: This matrix fits with a group of commonly reported simple lead personal seal matrices dating to the 13th - mid 14th (Harvey and McGuinness 1996. 79-80). Inscription is incomplete but appears to possibly name an individual from Sandwich, '___Of Sandwich'.

A worn and abraded fragment originating from a pilgrim's ampulla dating to the Medieval period, c. 1350-1530. In plan it would originally have been flask-shaped, though now only part of one basal edge survives-with the rest of the body and side-lugs missing in old damage. Raised moulded decoration would originally have been visible on both faces of the ampulla, though now only one side can be discerned-on which is visible a scallop-shell design consisting closely spaced vertical ribs. An extremely worn and abraded fragment originating from a pilgrim's ampulla dating to the Medieval period, c. 1350-1530. Both faces demonstrate traces of moulded decoration, though this is now mostly worn away. A copper-alloy Medieval shield shaped strap end, dating to the period c. AD 1350-1400. Notched on each side of the plate with a rounded inside edge, rivet on inside edge still present. The bar-mount has an arched section and single central rivet, also present. Both rivets have roves. There is also a small lozenge shaped mount with a single rivet hole attached to the rove of the bar-mount rivet. The fragment is rectangular in plan and lozenge-shape in cross section - this being typical of the Bronze Age. The edges of the blade are narrow, rounded slightly and uneven, with minor patches of damage in places. The corners are also rounded.
