An incomplete copper alloy Roman period brooch of the trumpet type. The brooch is badly corroded with its pin and the lower portion of its foot missing. Above the head is the collar which once secured a loop and collar attachment. The knop separating upper and lower bows consists of an acanthus moulding with three narrow cross-mouldings both above and below the acanthus. An incomplete copper alloy Roman period brooch of the trumpet type. The brooch is complete except for the missing chain loop. The pin is fixed in an upward position because of corrosion. The spring is mounted between two cast loops behind the head, with the external chord hanging beneath the coiled springs. The trumpet head tapers to a narrow bow. The knop which separates the upper and lower bows is a 4-petalled moulding framing a central disc. There is a further narrow moulding above the upper petals, and two directly below the lower petals. A complete copper alloy Roman period brooch of the Colchester derivative, hinged type. Though complete, the brooch is badly corroded. The backs of the wings fold back to form a cylindrical case, capped with pierced plates to secure the axis bar. There is a central recess for the pin. The long and narrow wings are undecorated. The bulbous head of bow tapers evenly to a narrow foot knob shaped like the frustum of a cone.
