A cast copper alloy dagger or knife guard of medieval to post medieval date (c. 1300 - 1700). The object has an elliptical section; it has rounded arms or quillons which curve towards the blade, so that from the side the quillons form a crescent shape. The socket to take the handle is elliptical, 26.8 mm by 23.9 mm, and has a raised rim 4.4mm wide. The object has a patchy green patina, with one deep and apparently old scratch running vertically. Overall width is 42.6 mm, length 28.7 mm. Thickness 5.4 mm. Weight 45.1 g A similar object is described in record WILT-1BABFC

A copper alloy Late Medieval to Post Medieval dagger pommel dating from about AD 1450 - 1550. The pommel is sub-circular and domed with a rectangular slot at the apex to accomodate the tang of the missing blade. The upper hemisphere of the pommel is decorated with six wide grooves, giving the pommel a sexfoil appearence. The lower hemipshere is faceted with six sides, making it hexagonal. The underside is open, leaving a large sub-oval opening. This copper alloy shell would probably have been filled with lead to weight the pommel to balance the missing blade. Iron knife. The first portion of the handle is made from solid iron which is octagonal in cross-section and gently expands from the blade for 18mm, after this point the base of a narrow tang (only 6cm remains) prudes from the centre sown that about two thirds of the handle would have been made from an organic substance. Only 10mm of the bladed remains, this is heavily corroded rendering any identification impossible.
