Folded lead sheet object of uncertain function or date. The object is broadly rectangular in shape and is formed by a large, thin sheet of lead that has been roughly folded approximately three times. Opposite corners of the object are bent down, whether intentionally or through damage is not certain. There appears to be a decorative design on the upper and lower faces, consisting of parallel transverse linear grooves. The object is 44.49mm in length, 22.92mm in width and 8.70mm in thickness. Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast half-round knob from the head of an Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, with a pit at the apex of its curve, and a deep moulded collar separating the rounded part from a grooved base. Immediately below the groove is a round hole of diameter 3mm which continues as a trough in the flat back of the knob. These features are associated with the attachment of the knob to the head of a brooch, probably by iron pins or wires, now lost to corrosion. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 450-600.
