Copper alloy button. A probably die-stamped slightly concavo-convex discoid plain button front, retaining corroded spurs of a drawn wire loop bedded in a dark tarry fixative; the loop has deteriorated more completely than the button front. The front retains faint traces of an outer circle, possibly framing elements denoting a uniform button. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950

Lead alloy toy soldier. Solid cast semi-flat figurine, naturalistically modelled at a scale of c.50mm or 1:36, and representing an armed sailor of a Naval landing party running with rifle held aslant and projecting in front of the body [part lost]. The subject is identified by a flat cap with ribbon at the back, a V-shaped arrangement over the collar, and by his flared or bell-bottom trousers. The figure retains an elongated hexagonal base, crisply defined. The manufacturer is probably Continental, possibly German. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1939.

Object type: GRENADE
Broad period: MODERN
County: North East Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy grenade filler plug. Cast discoid object, flat on one side with a flat basal indentation within a border, and with a rounded ridge occupying most of the other side. These components are commonly the only part of a hand grenade to survive its detonation in recognisable form. This must suggest wartime practice in the use of grenades, perhaps by a local Home Guard unit, or by troops tasked with harbour or coastal defence. Suggested date: Modern, 1939-1945.
