A fragment of a post-Medieval copper-alloy and glass 'fob' seal matrix (1700-1800). This fragment is the frame and intaglio. The handle is missing. The frame is oval in plan and has a central circumferential ridge and step. The bevelled intaglio is secured by small lugs turned inwards. The clear glass intaglio bears a 'man of war' two-decker sailing ship. Viewing an impression, the ship is sailing right. It has three masts and the foresail and mizzensail are furled. Fragment of a gold ingot, rectangular in plan and rhomboidal in profile, and plano-convex in section. The ingot has been cast and then forged or hammered on two sides. The porosity seen in section at one end is created by the casting and then the ingot has been hit once it was cooled and this end section has cracked away. The opposite end has been sheared off with a blunt 'cold' chisel which has caused the end to expand slightly. So this piece may have come from a longer strip which was used and this fragment kept for future use or left to be melted down in a crucible. From the analys…

An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy double-looped buckle (c. 1550-c. 1650). The pin is missing. This buckle frame has two similar shaped loops of equal size and they are 'D'-shaped in plan. The central bar is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear and has a knop at each end. At the front, the loops are decorated with a central barrel moulding at each outer edge. The barrels have beaded borders either side which are framed on either side by moulded tendrils and leaf decoration with a knop on the outer edge. An incomplete Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) small-long brooch (c. 450-c. 600). The lower part of the brooch as well as the pin is missing. The flat head-plate is a trefoil around a central square. One of the side foils is smaller or has been damaged or abraded. At the front, the square has four ring-and-dot motifs, one close to each corner. A medieval (1250-1450) copper alloy composite strap-end, with a front and back plate and a forked spacer between. The strap-end is parallel sided with a trefoil knop at the closed end. The spacer plate is c.3/4 of the length of the front and back plates, from the trefoil knop and stopping short of the open end. The space between the front and back plates here contains organic matter, probably from the original strap. Traces of a single rivet are evident at the centre of both ends. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy flat, enamelled disc (sexfoil) plate brooch (AD 80-250). The pin, some of the spring and the curled-over part of the catch-plate are missing. A flint flake or possible blade, probably dating to the Neolithic period (c. 4000-2200 BC). The object is composed of a light grey flint that is sub-triangular in plan with a pointed tip at one end and a broken square edge at the other. A raised central ridge runs the length of the dorsal surface from tip to base from which the faces slant downwards either side towards the bladed edges. The edges are slightly rounded and may have been retouched. The ventral surface is curved and smooth. The flint measures 41mm in length, a maximum of 18mm in width and a maximum of 6mm in thickness.
