Three sherds of Gaulish samian ware, probably dating c. 100-250 AD. The three sherds consist of two base sherds (one with a virtually complete foot-ring) and a body sherd. 1. Body sherd, pinky-orange inner fabric covered by reddish slip. On the outer surface, the stamped design of a dolphin set within a ropework border is visible. A fragment of a ceramic Coarse Border ware figure probably from a lobed cup dating from AD1300-1400. The remaining fragment consists of the body and head of a zoomorphic form probably a dragon. The figure is in a buff fabric with a green glaze. The animal has a snout with two circular nostrils, wide mouth and long neck. the body is decorated with incised oblique slashes. A Roman ceramic rim sherd from a Black Burnished Ware (BB1, from Wareham/Poole Harbour, Dorset) vessel, probably a bowl, probably dating to c. AD 44-150. A hard fired dark grey/black fabric with an abundant sub-angular quartz temper, burnished on both the internal and external surface. It is from a simple open-mouthed vessel with a beaded rim and no decoration. The sherd measures 28.67mm in length, 20.45mm in width and weighs 5.01g. A similar example can be found in Seager Smith and Davies (1993) form 13, dated to between the first century and the early second century AD.
