Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A lead and iron steelyard weight, probably of Roman date (AD 43 - 410). The object is conical in shape with a flat base. From the blunt tip emerge two short stubs of ferrous wire, probably the remains of the suspension loop. There is a shallow, corroded loop of wire (3 mm diameter) protruding from the base; this seems a common feature in Roman steelyard weights. The object has a pale cream patina on all surfaces, and several dents and scratches that are probably post-depositional.
Diameter of base 30 mm, height 35 mm. Weight is 103 g

The weight measures 30.5 mm in diameter and 15.3 mm in thickness. It weighs 105.6 g, corresponding to a quarter pound in the averdepois system. Similar examples are SOM-FD8884 an…

Copper alloy vessel repair patch. A straight-sided strip of sheet metal of thickness 0.5mm, sharply folded thrice to form a repair clip for a wooden vessel. Traces of black paint, lacquer or oil appear on the folded side of the object, and are a characteristic feature of early post-medieval metalwork, which was often treated with linseed oil. Abraded. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1650.

Two copper alloy vessel fragments from a bowl or dish, probably of late medieval to post-medieval date (c. 1200 - 1600). The two pieces, although found a metre apart, fit together easily, suggesting the break occurred post burial, with both edges still sharp. Each piece has a similar profile, with the walls of the vessel thinning up from a thick, rounded band, which forms a decorative collar around the vessel, up towards the missing rim. The larger piece measures, Length 53.5 mm, Width 38.2 mm, Thickness 2.8 mm, Weight 21.78g. The second, smaller piece, measures , Length 29.2mm, Width…
