Record ID: NLM-B6D21E
Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Grey flint scraper, as kindly identified by the finder. A flake with irregular and convex flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a flat ventral surface. A pale grey patina extends over all surfaces, arising from a period of exposure to a calcareous environment, removed by short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect along the concave edge on one side, forming a notched scraper. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 32.8mm, Width: 15.8mm, Thickness: 3.7mm, Weight: 2.14gms

Broad period: BRONZE AGE

Grey flint with limited recortification, scraper, as kindly identified by the finder. An irregular trapezoid flake with large parallel flakes struck by unidirectional invasive angled hard hammer working from the dorsal side, and with an irregularly fractured ventral surface. The reformation of cortex is interrupted by this working, which may suggest the reuse of a previously discarded chunk. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 44.0mm, Width: 34.1mm, Thickness: 14.5mm, Weight: 23.60gms

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk

Neolithic - Early Bronze Age flint scraper dating to the period c. 4000 - 2351 BC. Struck off a primary flake, approximately 70% cortex remains on the dorsal face. The ventral face exhibits prominent, widely spaced ripple marks. The bulb of percussion has been removed by abrupt and semi-abrupt, scaled, semi-invasive retouch along one mesal edge and along the proximal and distal ends of the flake. The flint is dark grey with no visible inclusions.
