An incomplete copper-alloy furniture fitting, probably a lock or draw escutcheon dating to the Post Medieval period (c. AD 1600-1700). The object is irregular in shape, consisting of a broadly sub-trapezoidal plate that is rectangular in cross-section, which has a bowed appearance due to one edge being shorter and concave and the opposite edge being longer and convex in shape. A short sub-rectangular plate protrudes from one end - possibly part of the attachment loop - while the other end of the object is unevenly broken and worn. The upper surface of the object is decorated with an e…

A zoomorphic copper alloy mount, probably of Post Medieval to Modern date, about AD 1700 - 1900. The mount is broadly shaped like a letter C and seems to represent a dragon or similar beast. It has open jaws and a possible eye or ear at one end, and flares at the other end. The mount is incomplete, certainly broken at the flared end, and possibly at the head end too. Both faces are flat apart from four raised pellets on the front, each surrounded by a circular groove, producing ring-and-dot effect. The pellet closest to the eye/ear also doubles as a blunt, circular, copper alloy mo…

Post medieval silver halfgroat of James I dating to the period AD 1613 - 1615 (Second coinage). Cinquefoil initial mark. Tower mint. See: North, Vol. II, p. 123, no. 2105. Pierced at 2 o'clock on obverse (11 o'clock on reverse) The perforation of a precious metal coin would normally indicate that it should be considered as potential Treasure. However, since coins of this period with similar piercings appear in hoards of currency, it suggests that such objects could re-enter circulation as coins. It therefore cannot be said with confidence whether this particular object was regarded…
