Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A copper-alloy fragment, probably from a Post-Medieval buckle dating to c.1575-1700. The majority of the frame and the pin is missing and all that remains is the openwork moulding from the outer edge. The fragmant is an openwork lozenge in shape with concave sieds and two pieces of the frame ending in an old breakage at one side. The outer, complete, end has a protruding knop which is trefoil-like in shape.
A more complete example on the database is PUBLIC-069A78 which has a similar openwork moulding. That is an asymmetrical buckle dating to c. AD 1575-1700.

A Post-Medieval copper alloy coin from India, probably the denomination called a paisa, probably dating to AD 1790-1830. A close parallel seems to be SWYOR-B55B81, "a Paisa of Gwalior State, Gwalior Fort mint, struck in the name of the Mughal Emperor Muhammad Akbar II, during the reign of Maharaja Daulat Rao Scindia (1796-1825)".
It is common to find Indian coins in Britain, probably because they were brought here by people serving in the colonial Empire in India.
