Copper alloy brooch. Cast small long brooch with a cross-potent head with rounded ends to its three arms, defined by small U-shaped cut-outs near the springing of each arm, and each end being separated from the rest of the head plate by stamped features which appear as untidy doubled or superimposed chevrons within separate border lines. The effect achieved by this two-dimensional elaboration recalls the rounded knobs of some cruciform brooches. The bow continues with slightly divergent straight sides to a straight-ended foot. At least five ridges are scored across the upper part of …

Lead spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with a central moulded tapered aperture of diameter 10-9.5mm, Walton Rogers form A1. A light nick next to the hole on the convex side may be a tying notch, possibly signalling conversion of whorl to line weight. The ample size of spindle hole could point to an Anglo-Scandinavian date and the mass may hint at a primary function plying cord, though the metal retains a grey tint except in its hole, perhaps arising from some unusual feature of its deposition - perhaps a period of water-rolling and submersion. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-…
