A complete glass melon bead of uncertain date. The bead is sub-pentagonal in plan with a central circular perforation. Five longitudinal grooves in the side give the bead the appearance of a five-petaled flower. The grooves are regular. The glass is blue in colour. The bead is 9.0mm in diameter, 5.0mm thick and weighs 0.4g. The perforation is 2.8mm in diameter. Glass beads are very difficult to date with any certainty. A complete glass bead of uncertain date. The bead is circular in plan with a slightly off-central circular perforation. The glass is a dark blue colour. There is a chip and scratch on the outer edge. The bead is 9.8mm in diameter, 4.6mm thick and weighs 0.5g. The perforation is 4.7mm in diameter. Glass beads are very difficult to date with any certainty. They are often thought to be Roman in date though blue glass beads were commonly used in spangles on lace making bobbins in the 19th century. An incomplete orange glass intaglio dating to the Post Medeival to Modern period (c. AD 1700-1900). The intaglio is oval in plan and on one face depicts the bust of a helmeted Mars facing right holding a shield. The intaglio is set within a cast silver frame. The frame has indications of attachment points at the top and bottom of the oval, suggesting the object may once have been from a watch fob or brooch insert.
