A fragment from a cast copper mount / scabbard / strap suspension plate / strap fitting from which hooked strap fittings would have hung. This form of plate is dated to the post-medieval period (1500-1700). The fragment comprises part of a rectangular strap plate and a single suspension loop. The plate is broadly rectangular in plan with a single pierced rivet hole. Around the rivet hole is an area of iron corrosion suggesting it was held in place with iron rivets. It has a plain acorn knop terminal with a collar dividing the stylised acorn shaped element from the two prongs. The incomplete prongs are flat and rectangular in cross-section and have a thickness of 1.7mm. This object is drab green and corroded. The breaks are old. Each consisting of a kite-shaped piece of sheet metal which has been rolled into a tapering cone and the triangular 'flap' at th top ben over to create the 'head' which has been flattened. The frame of the buckle is sub-rectangular (rectangular with rounded corners) in plan with a central bar to which the pin would have fitted. The pin is missing and lost. At either end of the buckle frame are wedge shaped (triangular) cast projections. Whist the upper surface is decorated with gilded drilled annulets and incised lines.
