A fragment from a cast copper mount / scabbard / strap suspension plate / strap fitting from which hooked strap fittings would have hung. This form of plate is dated to the post-medieval period (1500-1700). The fragment comprises part of a rectangular strap plate and a single suspension loop. The plate is broadly rectangular in plan with a single pierced rivet hole. Around the rivet hole is an area of iron corrosion suggesting it was held in place with iron rivets. A complete but broken post-Medieval copper-alloy dress-hook (c. 1500-c. 1650). Read Class E, Type 7 (heart shaped).
A break has occurred at the junction between the plate and hook.
The object is moulded at the front, flat and plain at the rear. It has a sub-rectangular/trapezoidal attachment loop, 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear. The width of the attachment loop is 11.8mm. The plate/body is heart-shaped and at the front an open heart in low relief has a central trefoil pointing inwards at its top. Originally it may have depicted a fleur-de-lis style design whist now in its new state it is more like a bird - possibly a peacock. Two post-medieval rolled copper alloy rivets. Each consisting of a kite-shaped piece of sheet metal which has been rolled into a tapering cone and the triangular 'flap' at th top ben over to create the 'head' which has been flattened. One is complete wih damage below the head, the other broken below the head. The complete example has not been flattened at the tip.
The complete example measures 51.4mm in length and 11.4mm in maximum width (at the head). The shaft of the rivet narrows from 9.2x7.8mm to 2.9mm; the sheet metal is 1.8mm thick and the object weighs 5.41g.

An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy mount (c. 1600-c. 1700).
The mount is drop-shaped, convex at the front and partially concave at the rear. One end is rounded and the sides taper in to a narrow point and then flare to form an elongated pointed knop. At the rear are two integral tapering spikes, both of which are circular in cross-section. One spike is complete and only the stub of the other survives.
This mount is reddish brown with bright green corrosion products.

The frame of the buckle is sub-rectangular (rectangular with rounded corners) in plan with a central bar to which the pin would have fitted. The pin is missing and lost. A worn and heavily abraded sheet copper-alloy buckle plate of likely Medieval date.
Description: The plate is incomplete and would likely have been tongue-shaped with complete. The plate has three large rounded rivets remaining, which would have held it to its backplate and belt. The backplate is missing and may have been matched witht he front plate or narrower suchs as (SUR-FCCCF1). The edges and breaks of the buckle plate are heavily worn. Traces of gilding survive on the plate but otherwise it is a mottled red-brown to mid green.
