A bent and slightly worn silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Second (North) issue 1561-1583. Mintmark of Long Cross and dated to '1580'. North (1991, 135) no.1997.
Obv.: Crowned bust left; rose behind head right. Legend: '+ELIZABETH'D'G'ANG:FR:ET:HI['RE]GINA'. Rev.: Long cross fourchee on royal shield surmounted by date '1580'. Legend: '+POSVI/DEV:AD/IVTO[RE/[M:M]E[VM]'. The coin is worn particularly on the top quarter of the reverse and its been folded with enough force or repitition to tear the coin partly at around 2 o'clock of the obverse.
