Lead alloy whistle fragment. Cast cylinder with a flat seam along opposed mould lines, otherwise with a surface occupied by moulded diagonally angled circumferential ribs, with narrow [0.7mm] billeted zones between them. One end is closed by a hemispherical cap with a suspension loop at its end; the other is broken across the site of an integrally cast reed; these features all appear integral parts of a single casting. The metal retains a grey tint overall, which may point to a recent date. Suggested date: Post-Medieval to Modern. 1875-1925 Length: 41.9mm, Diameter: 14.6mm, Thickn…

Small circular cast cu-alloy weight, probably dating 1700 to 1900AD. The weight is circular with a wide raised rim on the top and an indented centre on the back. There are two pairs of incised concentric circles on the front. The weight was part of a 'nest of weights' and has a small rim around the upper surface in which a small weight would have fitted. The weight itself would have sat in the heavier weight underneath. The upper surface is stamped with two crowns and a castle and no initials. The weight has no parallels on the database although a triple towered castle can be a symbol…

Copper alloy unidentified object fragment. A cast flat rectangular section bar with curved hollows symmetrically placed at either end on the lower side [as illustrated], and a larger curved hollow on one side of its upper edge, which is elsewhere straight. Sub-triangular projections at either end may suggest the continuation of the object as an open frame. A ferrous metal object is attached to the middle of one side, but as this does not appear to pass through the bar it may represent an adventitious adhesion rather than part of the object. The crisp edges might suggest stamped manufa…
