Lead spindle whorl. Cast cylindrical whorl with flat sides and a central moulded aperture of diameter 10.6mm, Walton Rogers form B. Patinated. Shrinkage lines around the hole may suggest this was cast in an open mould. Surface abrasions appear recent, perhaps dating from close to the time of discovery. The form and ample spindle hole may point to an Anglo-Scandinavian date while the mass may suggest a primary function plying cord. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 950-1100. Diameter: 33.2mm, Thickness: 8.1mm, Weight: 55.76gms
