An incomplete copper alloy Strap End of Late Roman date (AD 350-410). The object is an amphora shaped strap end and has a rectangular cross section and is sub-rectangular in form. The upper portion is a tapering rectangle with a split end and retained circular iron rivet. Below the rivet the upper portion is bevelled at its edges. At the lower end the upper section tapers in and fares out into a leaf shaped plate with a circular knop to either side of the upper end. Medieval copper alloy composite tongue-shaped strap end with full-width spacer. Two copper alloy rivets, one through the knop and one near the attachment edge. Opposed cut-outs before the knop there are five cut-outs on both sides, small rectangular, large rectangular, two small V-shaped and a another large rectangular. At the knop a fourth element with a transverse groove above opposed semi-circular notches is attached to the front with a rivet. The strap end is covered in iron staining and corrosion. A complete copper alloy Strap End of Early-Medieval date (AD 875-1100). The object is of openwork design in the Winchester style, with both zoomorphic and plant-scroll decoration.
The object is U-shaped and moulded in the round, with a recessed flat end with three circular perforations equally spaced along it.
