An integrally cast tapered square-section fixing spike [tip lost] now of length 13mm projects from the hollowed back behind the boss. While the petalled motif might recall a Tudor rose, the crisp finishing and regular features exhibit a Neo-Classical severity and must commend a later date. Probably for fixing in leather.
