TREASURE CASE : 2018 T611. A complete gold finger ring of medieval date, c.AD 1400 - 1500. The finger ring is circular, though slightly distorted, with a thin rectangular section. A crack is present to one side of the hoop. The outer surface of the hoop bears an inscription in Gothic blackletter text which reads: "De bon cuer" (of good heart). A sub-circular disc-like lead alloy object, probably a vessel repair ('pot-mend') of Roman to medieval date. The vessel mend is crudely made with the remains of a shank on one side - the opposing side is pitted and uneven. These objects are very hard to date without contextual information. Post medieval copper alloy belt mount dating 1600 to 1800AD probably from a sword belt. The mount is triangular in form and rectangular in cross section. The other corners are flanked by two possibly trefoil motifs at either end, one forming a pointed terminal. On the reverse are two integral attachment prongs. The mount has traces of decoration. A post-medieval copper alloy knife terminal. The terminal is in the form of two rectangular plates, each with a lis-shaped terminal. The plates appear to be separated by a spacer. One of the narrow sides retains traces of decoration set in niello, comprising a square containing a cross. The interior of the terminal is hollow and contains iron corrosion. Both plates bear a legend set in niello, and which together give a personal name. One plate reads DOROTHY and the other plate reads THORPE. An incomplete copper alloy Post medieval double loop asymmetrical buckle dating from c.1575-1700, missing the iron pin. One loop is rectangular shaped now broken, and the other is D shaped. The inside and outside edges are bevelled. The iron pin is missing but some residue remains. The buckle is a dark brown colour. The length is 18mm, the width is 16mm and the weight 1.42g. A silver Roman denarius of Julia Mamaea (AD 221-235), dating to the period AD 221-235 (Reece period 11). PROVIDENTIA AVG reverse type depicting Providentia standing left holding corn ears over modius(?) and anchor? This is a contemporary copy or hybrid combining types of Julia Mamaea and probably those of Severus Alexander. Prototype of the mint of Rome. Cf. BMC VI, p. 212, no. 1002 for a similar hybrid example. It is 18.8mm in diameter and 2.1mm thick. It weighs 2.36gm.
