Copper alloy vessel fragment. A cast cauldron leg fragment, of triangular section with a ridged outer side and hollowed behind. Copper alloy probable finger ring fragment, as kindly suggested by the finder. A cast oval bezel with a short tapered continuation with a rounded end on one side, apparently complete, and a recent break on the other suggesting the loss of an equivalent feature. The bezel itself bears a central rib with four ring and dot of diameter 1.6mm to either side. Ring and dot was a decorative technique used at various periods from the later Iron Age onwards, but which enjoyed a Viking-Age revival. The form of the object as it was found might permit an alternative identification as a hooked tag …

Lead alloy and iron unidentified object fragment. A cast round-section object with a rough longitudinally ridged surface with spurs pointing in opposite directions on opposit sides; now patinated. The appearance is of a tree trunk, or possibly, given the opposed orientation of spurs, an heraldic ragged staff or a branching antler. An iron rod of diameter 3.7mm protrudes from one end, and at the other is of 8.6mm diameter at the other where a ferrous metal nut appears to be fitted over its end. Unidentified object fragment. A shard of dense white metal with sheared flat surfaces, or irregular rhomboid form overall, with an external black coating; the object does not respond to a magnet and is therefore presumably of non-ferrous metal. The angular planes would suggest the object has sustained traumatic damage from mechanical or explosive force: either would suggest a relatively recent date, whether this were a fragment of anti-aircraft shrapnel or a mangled machinery fragment. Lead alloy unidentified object. A short cast rectangular section bar with a drilled hole of diameter 6.2mm at its rounded end and tapered towards a narrower broken tip at the other. An integrally cast oval projection on one side bears the rayed surface of a cockle shell motif on its upper and lower surfaces, and it appears possible that a similar projection has been lost from the opposite side of the bar, so an originally symmetrical form is inferred. Lead weight. Cast discoid weight of short cylindrical form with a broad circumferential border enclosing lettering [now illegible] stamped on one side, just possibly with a central bust. The design, most clearly at the rim, may draw on that of the 'cartwheel' coinage of 1797. Lightly patinated. The mass may suggest this was intended to represent one half of an averdepois pound. The stamped legend might suggest this weight was for commercial use or of commercial provenance. From the mid-18th-century, the use of lead weights was curtailed, though contrarily, official inspection stamps a…

Copper alloy and glass stud. A large round collet retaining a rounded white [clear] colourless translucent glass stone of diameter c.9mm; the upper edge of the collet is nicked in castellated style. The collet projects from a round base which is itself supported by a further short cylinder with rectangular slots on four sides, each slot of length c.6mm. These openings appear between four equidistantly spaced rhomboid lugs at the base of the object. Traces of gilding appear on two of the basal lugs. Copper alloy mount. Cast concavo-convex mount of possibly zoomorphic form, with a drilled fixing hole of diameter 2.3mm in a pointed lug at one end, and possibly with the edge of another fixing point at the other end, if this is not a complete and lightly bifurcated end. The subject depicted on the display face is uncertain: the finder perceives a platypus profile, here deemed unlikely. Copper alloy lock fitting fragment. Two joining fragments of a plate set around a keyhole of conventional shape and 22mm high. A line of pellets borders the keyhole, and beyond these appear the addorsed profiles of two male heads: the one to the right is open-mouthed, that to the left with down-turned mouth. Both masks have beetling brows with either hair or foreheads above of a flattened S-shape. The outlines are continued above and between the masks by a foliage border. The conceit appears to marry the medieval Green Man or Woodwose with conventions drawn from a Classical repertoire…
