Object type: SHOT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete lead-alloy probable musket ball or shot of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600 - 1800. The object is sub-spherical, perhaps mis-cast with the sprue remaining attached. The object is undecorated though has some fairly deep scratches and pitting. The metal has a light white/grey patina and is in fair condition. The object is 11.8mm x 13.3mm and weighs 13.7g. The weight suggests the object, if a shot, would have fitted a pistol. Sprues were sometimes left in situ to provide an attachment for the cartridge.

A fragment of a Humber Ware vessel of medieval date, c.AD 1250 - 1500. The object is a partial handle from a large jug. The handle is ovate, expanding one end where it would have joined the vessel proper, forming part of the wall of the vessel. Both ends terminate in worn breaks. The fabric is hard fired with a grey core and red outer edges. It has a rough texture with gritty inclusions. An olive-green glaze covers most of the fragments and traces of a yellow slip can also be determined. Ovate recesses are present to either side of the handle where it meets the body. The ve…
