Copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating c. 75-175AD. The head of the brooch is oval in shape. At the back is a pierced lug with traces of an axis bar that would have held the spring. The bow tapers to the foot which is missing. The bow has three moulded bands at the mid point, but is flat on the back. The catch plate is decorated on the both sides with small V shapes running along the edge of the bow. The pin and the outer edge of the catchplate are missing. The brooch has a dark green patina. Length: 56.2mm; width: 8.9; thickness of bow: 3.6mm; weight: 9.8g

Fragment of a copper alloy penannular Celtic-style brooch with a zoomorphic terminal dating to the late 8th or 9th century AD.The terminal is sub-triangular in plan tapering to a broken edge at the start of the hoop.On the back of the terminal there is a circular indentation which may have traces of silver or tinning.The upper surface of the terminal has relief decoration comprising a central ring around the outside of which are three smaller rings (evenly spaced) joined by relief arcs.It is possible that the cells these shape create could have been filled with coloured glass or enamel…
